Given the rise of “Game of Thrones” as the “next level” of television entertainment, a lot of competition are looking at HBO as fresh game. One of these parties is Amazon, and it’s looking for its own version of the hit adaptation.

Amazon head Jeff Bezos seems to want to find Amazon’s own “Game of Thrones” in order to help it up the ante on the entertainment race.

The news came courtesy of Bezos himself who, in an interview with Variety, said Amazon has “rethought” their strategy and are now looking for successes in the small screen. This can be in the form of a drama series that not only is high end, but it has global appeal.

“I do think Game of Thrones is to TV as Jaws and Star Wars was to the movies of the 1970s,” Roy Price, Amazon Studios head, said in an interview with Variety. This might mean Amazon will be shifting its focus towards successes such as The Man in the High Castle, or even The Grand Tour. The new shows will likely cover genres such as fantasy, science fiction, crime, and others.

“Game of Thrones” is the hit series that is based on hit author George R. R. Martin’s novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The television phenomenon talks about a realistic high fantasy setting called Westeros where various political families are fighting tooth and nail for the coveted Iron Throne.

The series is well known for its narrative and pacing, as well as the stark realism of character portrayals. The show features nudity and talks not only of political issues, but is also a well woven piece on family drama and issues such as religion and incest.

“Game of Thrones” has just finished airing its seventh season last August 2017. It’s set to air its eighth and final season in 2019.
